Victoria Allen has been playing basketball since the first grade, which allowed Allen to achieve her current freshman standing.
Currently, Allen has the most playing time and contribution as a freshman.
“I’m getting some playing time as a freshman, and I’m really happy about that,” said Allen. “It feels very nice and humbling to be placed in such a category, and this has definitely forced me to work harder to continue improving myself to keep getting those minutes and not lose time.”
Valerie VanRoeyen is the team’s co-captain, shooting guard, and has played basketball since the  fifth grade. VanRoeyen said Allen is a great person and is really funny.
“I’ve had the chance to get to know Victoria through the team” said VanRoeyen. “She is fun to hang out with off the court, and on the court, she brings a lot of composure and has really stepped up as a freshman with helping the varsity team so far.”
VanRoeyen also shares that in terms of Allen’s future with the team, she will be huge player for Augie.
“She’s grown already so much within the span of this year, and she’s become a lot more aggressive in terms of scoring and taking more open shots,” said VanRoeyen. “For the next couple of years when the point guards graduate, I feel she’ll step more to that role and really lead the team.”
Allen considers herself a hard worker and good at managing her time. She plans to continue playing and improving her stats, as she moves forward with the team.
“ Victoria has a great work ethic, and she’s come in aggressive, strong, and works really hard,” said VanRoeyen. “You can always count on her to do her best.”
Apart from her individual goals, she said that the team, as a whole, has a main goal to reach the conference tournament. In pursuit of reaching the conference tournament. The teams understands that they have to be at least in the top four of conference to qualify.
The team currently has a 7-9 record and will be playing next against Millikin in Decatur, IL on Jan. 24th.
