Men’s Golf Prepares for Augie Invitational

After getting snowed out last weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, the Vikings look forward as they prepare for the Augustana Invitational taking place on Friday, April 13th.
The Vikings have had a very respectable season so far, placing top 10 in multiple invites, a lot having to do with the play and guidance of Junior, Alex Sierra.
“Being an upperclassman on the team, the main responsibility is keeping the younger teammates motivated and understanding of the tournament situations. This includes how to handle yourself in pressure situations and what should be going through your mind during tournaments,” Sierra said.
Preparation is key especially with having a home invite, and when talking to Freshman, Dylan Flock, he explains how mental preparation is very important.
“We’ve been putting a lot of work in our indoor facility at Carver because of the weather. We’ve been getting a lot of reps in and really focusing in on our mental game, as that plays a big role on the golf course. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get outdoors a lot next week heading into the tournament,” Flock said.
When talking to Flock about his teams’ goals and expectations for the last part of their season, Flock explains how performing well at this upcoming invitational is critical.
“We’re really looking to start making some noise in our upcoming tournaments. We’ve had a bit of a slow start to our spring season so we’re really looking to put it together as a team and catch stride before our conference tournament,” Flock said.
Execution is everything on the golf course and when talking to Sierra about what his team has to do to have success this upcoming weekend, he got straight to the point.
“With our invite being at Fyre Lake which is a very demanding course, the main thing we need to execute in order to have success is taking one shot at a time. It is a course that you need to be very patient with and not get ahead of yourself. I think there is a lot of low numbers out there so anything can happen,” Sierra said.
The Vikings will be in action the following weekend as well, as they will be participating in Weist Foundation Classic in Decatur, Illinois.
