Augustana owns and plans to sell former R.I. KMart

The vacant property formerly known as KMart in Rock Island is now up for grabs, but many people don’t know that the land at 3840 46th Ave is actually owned by Augustana College.
The retail giant closed their doors on July 31, and now the College is looking for options to sell that property.
According to Sam Schlouch, Senior Communications Director for the college, the land was donated to Augustana years ago. Now, “The college is interested in developing a plan to sell the property that is fair and reasonable for both parties” said Schlouch via email.
Schlouch said that the college is currently working with a partner who is interested in purchasing that property.
With K-Mart now closed, it is in a prime location for new and exciting development for Rock Island residents, including Augustana students.” said Schlouch.
College officals hope to see the land developed into something that residents of Rock Island, including Augustana students, faculty and staff can use to their benefit.
