A partnership between the City of Rock Island and Augustana College will lead to improvements to the Slough.

Beginning Nov. 11, workers from the city will begin to drain the Slough to locate a pipe currently under the water and move it under the Slough path.

In 2017, pipes collapsed and flooded campus. According to the college, the renovations are a preventative measure against something similar happening in the future.

The Slough path will remain open to the community for the fall semester, but will close briefly during J-Term to complete the project. According to the college, the Slough is expected to be fully restored at the beginning of the spring semester.

On Oct. 9, the Rock Island City Council approved the project, and it will be funded by the city.
