Women's cross country finishes sixth at Les Duke Invitational

The women’s cross country team returns from the 55th Les Duke Invitational at Grinnell College with a 2:10:57 total time which gave them a sixth-place finish in the fourteen team field. The 6K race was held at the Grinnell County Club golf course in Grinnell, Iowa.
The Vikings scored 151 points, which was 11 points behind host Grinnell College.
Augustana had three runners within the top thirty out of the 201 runners in the meet. Junior Amanda Nelson posted the team’s best individual time with a time of 25:20:2 which earned her 15th place. Last week Nelson won the CCIW’s Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week award after her fifth-place finish at Mount Mercy in their opener.
Sophomores Carol Garcia and Hannah Penn had the team’s next best times with 25:57:5 and 26:09:9 respectively. They finished 24th and 29th respectively.
The team next race is the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at the Saukie Golf Course which is the team’s only home meet of the 2016 season. The meet will be on Friday, Sept. 23.
