Up to bat: Men’s baseball looking to end the season on a high note

On April 27, the men’s baseball team won back-to-back games against Wheaton College, putting the team at a record of 20-15. With a handful of games left, the team is hoping to end the season right.

“I think we’re pretty confident,” sophomore Ethan Sosnowski said. “We’ve had a little rough patch playing. We’ve been playing good teams recently and had a little rough patch, but we’re pretty confident that if we make the tournament, we’ll be able to go far from there.”

Through the ups and downs, the team has had a few challenges that have impacted their game.

“We have faced some challenges offensively,” First-Year Heath Perry said. “Mainly our consistency at the plate, but we have also run into games where we are hitting the ball hard just right at people. So, if we continue to do that, they will start to fall and good things will happen for us.”

One important aspect of baseball is the mentality of the players. The right mindset can have a big impact on the team.

“Another challenge our team has faced is our mentality,” Perry said. “A lot of our guys are feeling pressure and are letting that get to them rather than playing the game that they love.”

While there have been some challenges, the team has also made many improvements during the season and hopes to continue to improve throughout the rest of the games.

“I think our confidence has improved overall,” Sosnowski said. “We have a really talented team, and all the guys on it can do great things. So I would say our confidence has really improved.”

The team has shown many strengths in the past games that have helped them win games as well. The team is very consistent and can face any situation.

“Our lineup is very consistent,” Sosnowski said. “We don’t have any gaps. We trust guys to get things done. Everybody can do good in pretty much any situation we might face on the field.”

One major impact on the team’s success is the coaches and how the team practices.

“I think the coaches set our players up very well,” senior Bryce Luckey said. “I think our players feel prepared for any situation that we are put in. Practices are very beneficial for players to stay in tune with their skillset.”

As the season comes to a close in the upcoming weeks, the team believes that the season has been great, but they can still play to their full potential.

“Well, obviously, the season is not over yet,” Sosnowski said. “As of right now, I just think we haven’t played up to our full potential as a team. So hopefully, we’ll be able to do that towards the end of the season and get some wins.”

The team is currently ranked number 6th in the conference and holds the last spot in the conference tournament. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the tournament will take place May 8-11 and will be hosted by the school that is in the one seed.
