Women’s Lacrosse gains win against Monmouth Scotts

The Women’s Lacrosse team started their spring season in late February with a great start, gaining many wins. The women competed against Monmouth on March 14 and are now at a 6-2 record after winning against Monmouth and Trine, and taking a loss to Albion.
While talking to some of the team members before the game against Monmouth, they were hoping to come out strong and that’s exactly what they did defeating them 21-9.
Freshman player, Ariel Gonsowski-Padron, said,
“Of course, our team hopes to come out on top with another win for the season, especially since it is our first conference game. The conference games are the most important games of the season, so starting off on a good foot will help motivate us for the rest of the season.”
Junior player, Carla Bennett, talked about keeping the energy up throughout the game.
“We’ve been working towards bringing more energy to the first half of our games, so hopefully we can come out strong against Monmouth and carry the energy throughout both halves,” Bennet said.
The team has an overall positive outlook on how the season has gone so far and hopes to continue their winning streak.
“Our season has gone really well so far. We’re currently 5-1, and our success has only made us want to get better. We’ve essentially been preparing for our season all year, and seeing individuals’ goals, as well as the team’s goals, come to fruition has given our team so much more confidence which will be key in our harder games,” Bennett said.
The team has set many goals for the remainder of the season, as they move on to playing more CCIW teams.
Gonsowski-Padron stated her personal goals for the season.
“One of the biggest goals I have this season is just to keep having fun. We perform our best as a team if we are having fun. No matter what the score shows on the scoreboard if we are having a great time, it is a win in my eyes. That’s what pushes us to play each and every day,” Gonsowski-Padron said.
There are many things the team has to look forward to as the season continues. Bennett and Gonsowski-Padron had different views on what they are looking forward to, but they were both excited about what has yet to come.
“Not only am I looking forward to conference play, but I’m also excited about our tailgates! Our team truly has a family culture, and spending time with loved ones after our games is something we all cherish,” Bennett said.
Gonsowski-Padron stated as a new player, she looks forward to making memories with her new teammates.
“As a first-year lacrosse player, I was super nervous to join a collegiate team. However, every single girl and coach on the team has opened up their arms and hearts to me. What I am looking forward to most this year is to become close with the team so that I feel like I am a part of the family. I am also looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season takes us. We have started off on a great foot and we can only go up from here,” Gonsowski-Padron said.
