Janet Stodd will perform on flute, alongside other Augustana faculty on Sept. 23. The performance will include musical styles ranging from jazz to contemporary.
The performance will take place in Wallenberg Hall at 8 p.m. Stodd, a flute instructor at Augustana and St. Ambrose University, said she loves playing with other faculty members and musicians.
“It helps me and my students to grow, to hear their teachers playing,” Stodd said.
She will play alongside other faculty members such as, Mary Neil on the piano, Randall Hall on the saxophone, Susan Schwaegler on the clarinet, and Susan Bawden on the bassoon.
Stodd began her musical career as a child when her older brother began playing the horn. She listened to her brother’s colleagues, and noticed the beautiful sound of the flute. This influenced Stodd to purchase her first flute.
Stodd is also involved in the Quad Cities music community. She is the founder and director of the Augustana Flute choir, founder and president of Quad City Flute Unlimited, and principal flutist and orchestra manager for the Quad City Opera Company. She has also recorded 10 CDs with the National Flute Choir.
Sam Slouch, the manager of arts events and communications, said Stodd is only one of Augustana’s faculty members who can perform on campus.
“During the course of the year, many of the faculty members will give multiple recitals,” Slouch said. “On occasion we bring in guest artists who give recitals or concerts as well.”
