Augustana Observer

Editorial: New year, new goals

Dear Readers,
This year you may notice some changes to the Augustana Observer. From the front page to the website, our mission is to modernize one of Augustana’s longest standing organizations throughout the year.
The Observer has served as Augustana’s news source for 112 years and while we will continue to serve the community, we will take a more progressive stance on how we report and publish.
In the past few years, Augustana has become a multimedia journalism advocate, and we’d like to reflect the changes taking place in the professional world as well.
We’ve always been a weekly update for the Augustana community, but we’d like to become a daily source of information.
Our goals include a greater social media presence and updating our site with breaking news. We will strive to investigate more issues that are important to the student body and generate a dialogue.
We hope that the Observer will reclaim its former status as the voice of the students and incorporate more involvement and interaction with the community.
This also includes the Quad Cities community, which we would like to reach out to in a greater capacity by covering issues off campus.
We’d like to break the “Augie Bubble,” not only for ourselves, but for the Augustana community. We hope you embrace the change with us.
Co-Editors-in-Chief,
Shylee Garrett & Ryan Silvola
