Senior Meredith Chew snatches the ball during practice Sept. 28. The women’s soccer team will be going up against CCIW rival Illinois Wesleyan on Oct. 3 at Illinois Wesleyan.

1. How is this year’s team different from last year’s?
“Mentally, this year’s team realizes how important every single game is and is approaching each  game as the biggest game of the year, no matter the opponent.
2. How does it feel to now be ranked 21st in the D3soccer.com poll? Was it a surprise?
“Being ranked 21st is a nice accomplishment and something to be excited about; however, we want to keep working to be ranked even higher towards the end of the season.”
3. What are some of the team goals for this season?
“Our team has several goals for the season, both big and small. One of our team goals is to win the CCIW tournament. Another goal is to make a run in the NCAA tournament. We have accomplished our team goal of having a record of 7-1.”
4. What are some of your personal goals for the season?
“A few of my personal goals include beating the school record for number of shutouts in a season, which is 14, and being the best leader I can be, on and off the field.”
5. What is the team’s biggest strength and biggest weakness this season so far?
“The team’s biggest strength is our chemistry. We all get along really well and that transfers into our play. We are also a very capable group with high standards. The only weakness our team has to overcome this season is the immense amount of traveling we have in our game schedule and making sure we keep up with our school work.”
6. Describe your most unforgettable moment on the field during your four years?
“My most unforgettable moment playing at Augie happened my freshman year when we played Wheaton at their field on their senior night and beat them 1-0. Wheaton has one of the nation’s best soccer programs and beating them definitely produced a feeling I’ll never forget.”
7. Which upcoming opponent is the team most excited to play?
“We are excited to play Illinois Wesleyan to kick off our conference matches. It is always a battle against them and we look forward to playing them every year!
