Softball starts conference play

The Women’s softball team plays on the road in their first conference game on Friday April, 3,  competing against Millikin University in a double header.
Millikin started off the season with four consecutive losses, but has started gathering victories from there. Last year, Augustana beat Millikin in both games, and head coach Kris Kistler is optimistic going into the double header this year.
“Millikin is a decent team, but I believe that we will have the opportunity to come back with two wins,” said Kistler
If the team competes against Millikin the way they have against other teams this season senior outfielder Laura Behnke believes her team can be victorious.
“The key to winning this game will be having timely hitting and strong pitching and defense,” Behnke.
Indeed, the team knows that winning against Millikin is important, but this game also has an impact on how the team will be seated in the conference tournament, and that can have a big effect on how the end of the season might play out.
Senior infielder Jenna Teson knows the effect conference games can have on the team’s season
“We do want to make sure the team is focused and ready to play because these games do play a big factor towards the end of the season when the conference tournament comes around,” said Teson.
Even though the conference games are significant, Coach Kris Kistler believes that a conference game is just like any other.
“We approach every game the same way,” said Kistler . “By this time in the season we are playing so many games that we only get around two days a week to practice, and the rest of the time we are playing in a game.”
