Still searching for their first conference win, the Vikings come up short against Carroll who is now 13-0 on the season.
Preparing for a matchup against an opponent who is undefeated and on top of the conference can be very difficult, and for a team like the Vikings who are desperate for a conference win, they knew they were in for a challenge.
“This specific game was one of our biggest this season, if not the biggest for us as it essentially determined where we sat in the conference this year, and was our best hope on making it to the conference tournament in a few weeks,” junior, Christina McCabe, said.
When talking to McCabe about how her team played overall, she had a lot to say.
“I think that Carroll was a really rough game for us as a whole mentally. We have a lot of talented and committed girls on our team but we are losing the mental game that goes on within our own team every time we step foot on that field. I think we had one of the strongest defensive games we’ve had in a while as they kept us in that game as best as they could physically and mentally,” McCabe said.
It is hard for a team to stay positive and confident going forward when they aren’t getting the results they want, but when talking to junior, Emily Lucnik, she is not worried about the team’s future.
“I think our biggest strength is the awareness that we need to put in hard work to get better and our ability to then follow through with that hard work. Although it might not be giving us the results we want right now, we have a lot of girls on the team who have made a lot of progress throughout this season,” Lucnik said.
When talking to Lucnik about the team’s chemistry, that is something that she believes her team strives in but acknowledges that it doesn’t solve all of her team’s problems on the field.
“Our teams’ chemistry off the field is really good. We have spent a lot of time getting to know each other and talking about the type of team culture we would like to have, and it has made us into a family. We are a young team with a lot of players from different backgrounds. Although our chemistry on the field is good, there is still room for improvement,” Lucnik said.
The Vikings will be back in action again next Wednesday where they will take on non-conference opponent Dubuque.
