Freshmen led the way for the women’s golf team as three freshmen scored in the top five for the Vikings. One of the freshmen was Melanie Loeffler, who led the team to a 5th place finish out of seven teams at the CCIW Championships at the Naperbrook Golf Course in Plainfield, Illinois this weekend.
Loffler shot a three-over 75 on Thursday and was tied for the lead after the opening round. She then shot an 86 on the second day of the championships, which dropped her into a tie for sixth. On the last day, she finished with an 82 to finish with a three-round total of 243.
Loeffler finished the seventh, which the best finish for a Viking in the CCIW Championships since Rachel Gahn finished seventh in 2008.
Other Vikings that scored were junior Jenna Lawrence in 22nd, while freshmen Grace Ludwig and Chelsea Meyer earned 24th and 28th respectively.
Augustana college finished with a team score of 1035.
The championship signal the end of the team’s fall season. They will return and play in February at the Warner University Classic in Serbing, Florida.
