On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Student Government Association held their fourth meeting. Big topics of this meeting were Residential Hall Representative elections, Symposium Day, and Student Activities.
Broken up by halls, Residential Hall nominees were each given the chance to address the senate prior to the vote. After all willing nominees had spoken from a given hall, the senate took a ballot vote to decide which nominee would be the representative for that hall.
Residential Hall Representatives this year are as follows:
Westerlin Hall: Katherine Hogan
Erickson Hall: Andrew Thumann
Seminary Hall: Kasia Mucha
TLA: Rachel Buenaobra
Andreen Hall: Salaheddine Aghlaf
A group known as Digital Commons is in the works on campus as well as an SGA senate Meet ‘n Greet so students can get to know those representing them.
A mock debate was finalized for Symposium Day between SGA Speaker, Samantha De Forest-Davis, and SGA Secretary, Caitlin Slone, followed by a Q&A panel with Campus Democrats, Politics Club, and senior, Chris Saladin, who will be representing the Libertarian side of the election.
SGA is working to put a campus biodiesel converter to good use, but the city of Rock Island is showing some difficulty. Senators are looking to start a petition on campus to get the converter’s use approved by the Rock Island government.
Some planned student activities include a Sloughfest all-school After-Party, Finals Week Punching bags, and Yoga on the Quad.
Students are reminded to look out for Liaison groups as a connection with SGA, as well as the new Residential Hall Representatives.
