The Augustana football team will be playing their first CCIW game of the season at home against Carroll University at 6 p.m. this Saturday.
The Vikings started off their season with a win against Mount St. Joseph. However, they lost their second game at home versus Central College.
Although the game against Carroll will be their first conference game of the season, the team isn’t treating the game any different than a normal game.
“A win is always important for the team. Getting the first conference win under our belt is huge,” said captain and senior Tommy Wilson.
As a senior, Wilson has never played Carroll University before, but has the same expectations as any other game: the team needs to perform the best they can and win the game.
However, head coach Stephen Bell has played against Carroll University before, but not while coaching at Augustana. With his previous experience with Carroll, he remains confident in his goals for the game.
“Our goal is to keep improving week to week and walk away with a win every time we play,” Bell said.
Winning the game is the mindset for most of the Augustana football players, but they also want to strive to play the best they can and never give up.
“We need to be the best we possibly can be by giving full effort and not stopping until the game is over,” Wilson said.
Coach Bell is looking forward to seeing all the families come to support the Vikings.
“We are definitely looking forward to playing a night game at home in front of a tremendous crowd. The Augustana College community and the Quad Cities community do a fabulous job of supporting our athletics programs,” Bell said.
