A new “Food Truck Tuesday” pilot program is beginning in downtown Davenport, IA. Davenport, now has “food for every mood” with the program running on Tuesdays in the month of September.
There has already been one Food Truck Tuesday, as these trial runs are being called, and there will be three more before the month is up. Trying out different locations and times throughout downtown Davenport, the idea came about through a public desire for a greater food truck culture, according to, Kyle Carter, director of the Downtown Davenport Partnership with the Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce.
Since there were so few food truck regulations in place many business owners were unsure of how to proceed.
“In the meantime they are doing a pilot project that for the first time they are allowing trucks on public spaces to try and get them all in one place at one time and create more of a culture,” Carter explained.
The program will begin in earnest in the springtime after the results of the pilot can be seen. There is also a plan for an ordinance regarding food trucks to be created during the winter.
Many have great hopes for this project, especially after the first run on Tuesday September 6 went so successfully. Kyle Carter expressed that this Tuesday went very well and said that there were about ten food trucks interested. There will be a variety of them featured throughout the month.
One such truck is Static Melt, a food truck that sells everything grilled cheese. Drake Deregules, who works with Static Melt, says that the first Tuesday went well and that Static Melt personally sold food to approximately 75 people.
“I find the project interesting,” says Deregules. “It would be great to park on some streets– that is an advantage”
Check out the Static Melt and other food trucks next Tuesday, Sep. 20, at the Riverfront and Brady St. in Davenport.
