The Observer sat down with track and field captain Brian Love joy and asked about his senior season.
1. What are some team goals for indoor track this season?
“As a team, our goal in general is always to be in the hunt to place or win in every event, but I think that we have high hopes of taking the conference title for indoor this season.”
2. As a senior, what are you striving to accomplish in your last season as a Viking?
“As a senior and a captain, I want to inspire my teammates to push themselves and to become greater than they would have imagined.”
3. What are your favorite events to run and why?
“My favorite event to run is the 5k because I like the rhythm that comes with a longer distance event.”
4. If you had to describe your team in one word, what would it be and why?
“In one word, I would describe my team as a family. We are such a close group of people, even though there are separate parts within the group. I have never seen such togetherness in a team before.”
5. Describe a moment where you were most proud of yourself when running.
“During this past cross country season when we competed in the regional meet, I was very proud to be a part of something so awesome. All of the alumni who came back to cheer us on really made it a worth while experience.”
6. What is the biggest lesson coach Ols has taught you in the past four years?
“The biggest lesson Ols’ has taught me in the past four years is to stay positive. He always believes in us even when we feel like we didn’t compete well. One bad race is not the end of the world.”
7. If you could switch places with a teammate for a day, who would it be and why?
“If I could switch places with one teammate, I would switch with one of the pole vaulters because they have so much skill and strength when they compete. Every little part of what they do matters when they go to vault, and if they mess up even one part, it could ruin the entire attempt. It takes a special kind of mental strength to compete in an event that requires perfection.”
8. To you, what does it mean to be a part of the Augustana men’s track and field team?
“To be a part of the Augustana track and field team means being part of a family of 80 great guys who are willing to do everything they can do to better themselves and the team.”
