We would like to take the time to say farewell to numerous professors that are leaving Augustana and taking on new life adventures. Whether that may be retirement or a different position at a different college, or elsewhere, we just wanted to let you know that you have impacted the Augustana community.
The Merriam-Webster definition of a teacher is “one that teaches; especially: one whose occupation is to instruct.” At Augustana, you are not just someone who instructs, you are much more.
The conversations outside classrooms, the invitations to off-campus get-togethers, and the “hello”s on the quad have made you much more than a face that we encounter in the lecture hall.
You have pushed students to excel academically and personally. Although a fluid faculty is nothing abnormal on a college campus, we are saddened to see you leave.
Please know that no matter how long you’ve been here, one year, two years or several decades, you have made a difference. You may be leaving Augustana, but you leave a handprint on the heart of students.
We are thankful to have had the opportunity to meet and learn from you.
