Taking the first of many steps to live up to several pre-season number one rankings, the Augustana men’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season against the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse with a score of 88-60 at the Carver Center.
Returning a total of eight seniors overall, the Vikings took full advantage of their experienced roster with each seeing individual court time. Yet, many newcomers like freshmen guards Chrishawn Orange and Nolan Ebel also made their debuts.
Senior guard Hunter Hill led the team in scoring with a total of 23 points on the night. Coming in close behind was junior guard turned post player Jacob Johnston chipping in 15 points. Senior forward Ben Ryan rounded out the Vikings with 12 points and six rebounds.
At the half, Augustana led by 18 with a score of 48 to 30 over UW-Lacrosse. By the end of the game, the Vikings dug a deeper lead winning by 28 points to solidify their first home victory.
Overall, head coach Giovanine’s squad collected a total of 35 rebounds to UW-Lacrosse’s 17. Augustana came away with a 72.2 free throw percentage, as well.
The Vikings will have an 11 day stretch without a game and will return to action against Fontbonne at 7 p.m. on Nov. 24 in St. Louis, Mo.
