Update:
Power has been restored to all buildings on campus, as Public Saftey announced in an email at 3:14 p.m. Additionally, the email states “Evening activities will proceed as scheduled. All classes will be held as scheduled tomorrow.”
Update:
Some campus buildings are operational again with the latest email from Public Safety stating “At this time, classes in Sorensen, Brodahl, Brunner and Olin will be held as scheduled. All other classes are suspended until further notice.” Additionally, dining services are available at all locations. Public Safety’s non-emergency number 309-794-7000 is operating as well. The cause of the power outage was identified to be “a transformer issue at Hanson Hall and a new transformer is en route,” according to the email from Public Safety.
Previous:
A major power outage canceled morning classes on Nov. 19. At 6:55 a.m., the Augie Alert system sent out email and text notifications to students to announce a major power outage on campus. At the beginning of the outage, the Public Safety phones were not functional and the area affected included Olin north to 5th Street. Crews from MidAmerican Energy have been working on repairing the outage since the announcement.
Due to the continuing outage, classes have been suspended until 10 a.m. At 8:34 a.m., another email alert announced that the Public Safety phone number is operating again.
At 8:43 a.m., Director of Auxiliary Services Fred Kurt sent an email addressing the impact of the power outage on dining services. Gerber Center is open but running on generators and will have limited options. However, The Brew and Gus’ SnackBar will not open until power is restored. The Westerlin Market opened early today at 8:45 a.m. to compensate for the limited dining options since the store has power.
The latest alert update, sent at 9:26 a.m., states “Except classes in Sorensen and Brodahl, classes remain suspended. A class update will be issued by noon.”
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
