Before today’s game, the women’s lacrosse team sat at one win and one loss after their 19 to 8 win against Franklin College on March 2.
The team hopes to improve their game as the season goes on.
“We are improving on becoming one,” First-Year Lanie Cecala said. “With a lot of new girls, each played individually, but as we practiced, we came together and became one.”
The first game did not go as planned, losing to Cornell College 21-5 but will be used as a lesson for the rest of the season.
“It did not go as well as we’d hoped,” First-Year Taylor Ackland said. “But that is okay because I feel like we played well, and even though we didn’t win, there were a lot of good moments. We worked together a lot.”
So far, the team has scored a total of 24 goals and is looking to add on some more and keep improving their game.
“Some improvements that I noticed were made because we have more conditioning and longer practices,” sophomore Madison Langewisch said. “More drills were put into our practices that helped focus on what would happen during games.”
Last year the women’s lacrosse team had a record of 6-7 but during the offseason the team acquired a new head coach who looks to improve the team after spending time at Monmouth and North Central College.
“It has been harder but has been very beneficial. I have felt a huge change since Coach Tice has been here,” Langewisch said.
The team is now focusing on becoming a threat to other opponents.
“I think since we’re rebuilding now, just getting back our streak and being seen as a threat because I feel like maybe some of the teams might see us as a team that’s gonna be easy, but showing that we’re gonna give our best,” Ackland said.
While work on the field is still improving, the team chemistry off the field is the best it can be.
“I love the team. I feel like everyone’s connected,” Ackland said. “It’s like a little family.”
