Emmeline Kenealy, the former Augustana senior charged with three counts of child pornography, was granted pretrial release with restrictions on Friday, Feb. 23. This means that she will no longer be held at the Rock Island County Jail while awaiting trial.
According to court documents, Kenealy’s release is dependent on her adherence to certain conditions. In addition to not having access to the internet, these include undergoing a mental health evaluation, staying in the state of Illinois and not having contact with anyone under the age of 18.
After her arrest, Kenealy appeared in court on Oct. 5, 2023, where the judge elected against pretrial release. On Feb. 23, the Court heard another detention hearing and denied the State’s Petition to Detain, electing to release Kenealy during the time before her trial.
Kenealy will be required to appear in court on March 22 at 8:30 a.m. for her pretrial conference. A trial date has yet to be decided.
