The Augustana women’s tennis team closed out their CCIW slate this week with three home matches. Augustana swept both of their matches against Carthage and Carroll after a loss against North Central. The women’s tennis team finished with an overall record of 7-5 and a conference record of 6-2.
On Saturday, April 17, the Vikings took a loss of 3-6. Augustana won the first three double matches, each with a score of 8-7, but followed up with a loss of the next six single matches. This caused Augustana to fall in the CCIW ranking with a record of 4-2. Even with a tough loss Saturday, that did not stop the Vikings from securing two wins on Sunday.
On Sunday, April 18, Augustana won all 12 single matches and five of the six tilts. They first competed against Carthage College and won 5-4 and 4-3. Following that match the Vikings took another win against Carroll by the score of 8-1.
Mia Reese, a freshman on the team, had a few things to say about wrapping up the season.
“Our season has flown by. We have had a few tough matches but we have really come out strong and played well together,” Reese said. “This weekend we gave it our all. We played North Central and faced a close tough loss but fought so hard. It was an exhausting weekend and all of our hard work paid off since we won.”
The women’s tennis team has two matches left in their season and then will finish out with a final CCIW tournament where they’re looking to progress to the CCIW championship.
