After finishing men’s basketball’s last season 17-9, including a 10-2 home record, the Vikings look to start off their season strong when they take on COE at the Carver Center on Friday September 19th.
When talking about building off of their great season last year, Senior Victoria Allen had a lot to say.
“I think keeping our same mentality, being relentless, and being motivated will help continue to build on the winning culture we have created in the program,” Allen said.
The Viking’s focus on winning as a team, and not worrying about individual stats, is when head coach, Mark Beinborn, praised his players because he believes that is their greatest strength.
“Our strengths are that we have a lot of skilled players. We don’t have players who are one dimensional. They can all dribble, pass and shoot,” Beinborn said. “This group plays very well together which makes us stronger as a whole.”
Unfortunately, the Vikings lost their season opener on Wednesday, October 28 to Lewis. They managed to come back with a win on against Monmouth.
When asking coach Beinborn about what they had to do to continue that success, Beinborn kept it very simple.
“As a team, we have to play hard, smart, and together. Our goal is to go out there and have some fun! Everything else will work itself out from there,” Beinborn said.
One of Vikings biggest goals this season is winning their conference tournament, which would give them an automatic bid to the National tournament.
“Our goal is always to make it to the conference tournament and move on to the national tournament. I hope that the girls work hard and together,” Senior, Victoria Allen, said. “One of our biggest philosophies on this team is “I Am Because We Are”, and I think that speaks clearly as to what we all expect of the team this season.”
The Vikings will have two more games at home during their 3 game home stand before traveling to Whitewater on Thursday, November 30.
