Augustana’s women’s golf team headed to West Chicago for the CCIW Championships October 5th, 6th, and 7th, for their last tournament of the season.
Preparation for this tournament started at the beginning according to senior captain, Korina Freidag.
“Over the course of the tournaments we have played leading up to the CCIW, we have been able to hone in on the specific parts of each of our individual games that needed strengthened,” said Freidag.
This mindset has helped the women finish in the top three of the six tournaments leading up to the CCIW Championships.
“Leading into the CCIW, we are all excited to compete and fight for one of the top spots,” said Freidag, “Each year, I have seen our team improve, and I am excited to see the scores we will be able to put up this year.”
This confidence and preparation led Augie to a third place finish at the CCIW Tournament which head coach, Tom Lawrence, was content with. He was even more happy with the growth the team has showed as a whole.
“I left the tournament pleased and knowing that we have to set a goal of moving up again next year,” said Lawrence. “We are the only team in our conference who has had better scores every year for the past three conference meets.”
The fall season also concluded with two Augie women being awarded. Melanie Loeffler and Jenna Lawrence will both be named All-Conference.
As for the how the team got along during the season, Lawrence had only good things to say.
High praise came from Lawrence about their skills on the course and how the teammate’s attitudes continues to allow them to grow.
“This team was as close knit a team as any team I’ve ever coached or played on,” said Coach Lawrence. “They truly care for each other and root for each other to be the best they can be.”
