A little longer than a month remains in the Augustana women’s tennis season. Once the season ends, it will see the end of the Dana and Lauren Goggin era.
The senior twins from Buffalo Grove, Ill. will look to add onto their record breaking career wins to finish out the season. Lauren is the current record holder with 181 career wins, which is followed by Dana with 180.
However, it is not the wins that Dana and Lauren said they want to be remembered by.
“Both of us are competitive and it was one of the main driving factors in our game. I would say that’s one thing I want to be remembered by,” said Lauren.
“I also want people to remember while we were great competitors, we also had good sportsmanship and we helped spread it to the rest of our team,” said Dana.
The goals for the rest of the season are simple for the twins: try to go undefeated to end the season and then carry that momentum into the postseason..
“We have to do well at our qualifier and get to the regional. Once we get there, we want to win a few rounds. We will play a lot of tough teams in our regional,” said Lauren.
Although the twins are not doubles partners, they still love playing together.
“I love being able to compete with my sister. It’s fun to see each other out on the court,” said Dana.
The advantage for the twins playing together is when the competition isn’t at its highest they can use each other for motivation.
“We are very competitive people, and I’m more competing with her (Lauren) on the court when I’m playing against someone else. It pushes each of us to get on the same level as the other,” said Dana.
