Last night, the Vikings defeated North Central College 3-0 at the Carver Center and earned their 13th win out of 15 matches. The Vikings move to 17-5 for the season and 3-2 in the CCIW.
In the first set of the match, sophomore Taryn VanEarwage helped the team extend their 8-7 lead to a 13-7 lead with a five-point streak. VanEarwage had seven kills in the first set to help the Vikings to a 25-12 win in the first set.
The second set was more contested between the teams, although ending in a 25-23 Vikings victory. The set started with an Augustana lead, but eventually North Central was in the lead 19-16. North Central errors and a major block by senior Jacqueline Kabir-Evans helped tie the score at 20-20. The teams then duked it out, tying at 21, 22 and 23 points before two kills by junior Emily Westermeyer and senior Amy Kalkhoff finished the set with a Vikings’ victory.
In the last set, the Vikings and Cardinals battled again until the Vikings won 25-22. The Cardinals took an early lead, but once the Vikings led 4-3, they kept the lead for the rest of the set and finished the match.
The next time the Vikings will compete is at the Wisconsin-Platteville tournament this Friday. The Vikings will play Nebraska Wesleyan Univsersity at 6:00 p.m. and the host Pioneers at 8:00 p.m.
