Augustana men’s golf looks to end their fall season with a win as the Vikings host the Viking Fall Shootout on this Saturday at Fyre Lake.
Augustana hopes to improve off of their results from the Hopkins Collegiate Classic where the Vikings finished 7th out of 15 teams on day one and eighth on day two.
Head coach Paul Del Vecchio believes that his team will carry momentum from previous competitions.
“This fall has been good. We started off with a nice 11th place finish out of 24 teams at an invite hosted by Carthage,” Del Vecchio said. “(We) then followed it up with a tie for second at one of the largest college tournaments in the region. Our second round team score of 298 was the lowest team score for the tournament.”
With the team’s previous success, Del Vecchio said that he’s confident in his team going into the shootout.
“We should be competing for the top spot,” Del Vecchio said. “We’ve played Fyre Lake several times so we feel pretty comfortable playing it and our seniors have the experience (there). It’s just a matter of staying focused and confident on every shot. “
Last season, the Vikings placed second out of three teams at the shootout.
Sophomore Alex Sierra believes that this team is looking better this year and should improve from last year’s results.
“The strides we have made from last year to now have been huge,” Sierra said. “We are contending in tournaments more regularly now. The next step for us is to pull off the victory.”
