The women’s volleyball team lost their first CCIW match of the year as they fell to Carthage College in four sets on Wednesday night.The team is now 0-1 in conference play and 9-4 on the season.
The Vikings lost the first two sets by scores of 23-25 and 17-25 before coming back and winning the third set 27-25. The Vikings fell short in extending the match to a fifth set, losing 19-25 to end the match.
The Vikings were led by sophomore outside-hitter Taryn VanEarwage, who had 15 kills and 16 digs, senior middle-hitter Jacqueline Kibir-Evans with 15 kills and senior Hannah Lindaman with 24 assists and 12 digs.
The Lady Reds were propelled to victory by Megan Behrendt, who had 15 kills and 13 digs and Abigail McGowan, who had 25 assists.
Carthage totaled 8 more kills than the Vikings on their way to outscoring them 66-52.
The Viking next games will be against Anderson University at 5:30 p.m. and Earlham College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday at 2 p.m.
