The women’s tennis team concluded a successful weekend against two conference rivals, winning both matches 9-0. The team is getting ready to play against CCIW conference rivals in the coming weeks.
The Augie women’s team is currently 3-0 in their conference matches, defeating Carroll University, Illinois Wesleyan University and Millikin University. The win against Illinois Wesleyan brought Miedema to his 100th win during his career at Augustana.
Women’s head tennis coach Jon Miedema is happy with how the team performed during the first CCIW conference games.
“It’s a good start to the season as far as it goes,” Miedema said. “We’re looking for more conference games coming up.”
Miedema said seniors and captains Lauren Goggin and Dana Goggin have been big contributors to the team in the four years they have been at Augustana.
“They’ve been significantly contributing to us for all 4 years. They’re doing a great job once again,” Miedema said.
Miedema also said the team is looking strong for the upcoming games.
“We have a deep team that’s talented,” Miedema said. “And they have come so far.”
Before going into the game against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, Lauren was optimistic of the team’s chances of winning.
“We have done pretty well in that match (against Illinois Wesleyan),” Lauren said.
During the Viking’s 9-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan, Dana and junior Mollie Magee earned an 8-4 win in their doubles match. Lauren and freshman Zeana Badawi won their doubles match 8-2.
After that match, the Vikings continued their success by defeating Millikin 9-0. Dana and sophomore Caitlyn Schaffer won the number one doubles 8-3. Lauren and Magee won the number two doubles 8-1.
In the next two weeks, the Vikings will play against three CCIW teams: Carthage College on Wednesday, North Park University next Wednesday and North Central on Sept. 24.
The Vikings’ next game will be against North Park University next Thursday at 4 p.m.
