The women’s volleyball team went 1-1 at the Loras Invitational on Friday in Dubuque, Iowa as they defeated St. Olaf College, but lost to Loras College.
The Vikings won their first round match against the then 3-0 St. Olaf (25-17, 27-25, 25-19). The Vikings advanced and squared up with the host Duhawks but came up with the loss as Loras improved to 4-0.
In the opening game against St. Olaf, junior Emily Westermeyer had eleven kills on 24 attempts with just three errors. Sophomore Taryn VanEarwage also contributed to the win with nine kills, eight digs, and one service ace. As a team, Augustana had eight aces throughout the match while St. Olaf only had two.
In the second round match, the Vikings faced a tough Duhawks team. The Vikings hurt themselves a bit as they had 29 hitting errors and gave away six more points from service errors. Loras won the first game 25-16 and took the second game in a close 29-27. The DuHawks finished the third game 25-18.
Women’s volleyball’s next game will be against Wartburg College at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Waverly, Iowa. Following that, they will host the Viking Classic on the 16th and 17th in the Roy J. Carver Center.
