Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders brought his campaign to Iowa over the weekend. The senator’s tour stretched across the state over a total of two days.
Sanders spoke to his supporters at the Davenport field office at 736 Federal St., on Dec. 14. Sanders said he feels “confident” that he will be able to win the caucus in Iowa on Feb. 1.
“You’re going to see a lot more of me in Iowa,” said Sanders while addressing the media after his speech.
Sanders addressed issues such as ending institutional racism, making higher education in America more affordable, health care for veterans, putting an end to ISIS and the debate over climate change.
“It’s our moral responsibility to save our environment and address climate change,” said Sanders.
Sanders is currently in second place in the Iowa polls, trailing behind Hillary Clinton.
The senator said that his campaign is doing well with people 45 years old and younger, but he is struggling to gain support from older generations.
Sanders noted that this becomes an issue when young people don’t go out and vote.
“We got to get (young voters) out on election night and on caucus night,” said Sanders
Sanders said he feels confident in his ability to take the lead because his campaign “focuses on the real issues of the American people.”
