One small email from Head football coach Steve Bell has a large impact on Senior Sam Frasco, who is being considered to join the Arizona Cardinals.
Frasco first received word that the Arizona cardinals were considering him last Monday after receiving a heads up from coach Bell to come meet with him and a college scout that represents the Cardinals.
An array of emotions swept through Frasco’s mind.
“I had to keep looking at the email a couple times and threw my phone to Sean Fitzgerald to make sure it was real,” Frasco said.
Frasco said some of things that were talked about during the meeting were basic questions, background questions, discussing some of Frasco’s film and Frasco’s steps going forward.
March will be key for Frasco as he travels to Northwestern University to attend a football camp that recruits for the Cardinals.
Frasco had to make some sacrifices in order to pursue his dream.
“I was going to study abroad in Australia so that was a conflict,” Frasco said. “So I dropped the Australia study abroad program, which is kind of down, but it’s for a chance to play in the pros so it’s for a good reason.”
Frasco won’t be retaining his position as quarterback if he joins the Cardinals; instead he’ll be on the recieving end of catches as a slot reciever or kick-returner.
The adjustments from quarterback to slot receiver won’t be much of a change for Frasco because of not only his 1172 rushing yards this year but his experience in those positions.
“Actually, in high school I was a receiver my junior year,” Frasco said. “I’ll be used to it. It’ll be a bit of a transition that’s for sure.”
At the Northwestern Pro Camp in March, Frasco will be competing against football players from Northwestern and other collegiate athletes. Frasco will have to prove his mettle in a variety of events.
“They have an indoor field with a full facility, so they’ll be making me do the 40 yard dash, 20 yard shuttle, 60 yard shuttle, my vertical and a bench test,” Frasco said. “They expect a few things from me so I just gotta hit the requirement and run routes for them.”
Even if Frasco doesn’t find a spot in the NFL, Frasco may find some alternate routes to continue playing football in the Canadian League.
“Yeah I’ll definitely consider the Canadian League,” Frasco said. “Anything to keep playing football is the goal on my mind.”
