After achieving a 15-4-1 record for the season, the Augustana women’s soccer team clinched their spot into the NCAA Division III tournament competition, where they will travel to Waverly, Iowa, to play the undefeated University of Puget Sound at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.
The Vikings had a CCIW conference record of 5-1-1 that was second only to Illinois Wesleyan University with a record of 7-0-0, despite a loss to conference rival Wheaton College that ended the normal season.
The team has been led this year by senior forward Kelly Farell, who has scored 15 goals this season, has 0.75 goals per game average and is a candidate for the 2015 CCIW all-conference team.
Farell hasn’t been the only one to achieve CCIW recognition. Junior Hannah Lohmeier and senior Stef Hamaker both received conference honors. Lohmeier was voted the 2015 All-CCIW first team performer while Hamaker was voted to the second team.
Some of the other players standing out on the team are first-year Andria Serra, who has had eight goals this season, Senior Jessica Kras, and Sophomore Grace Iaquinta.
The University of Puget Sound Loggers are 16-0 this season and are coming into the NCAA tournament off a 2-0 win.
If the Vikings defeat the Loggers, they have a chance to play Wartburg College or St. Scholastica college in the next round.
