OSL is at it again with more events scheduled for campus. Among other events scheduled for this year’s Family Weekend, the Variety Show will take place in Centennial Hall on Saturday, September 12th at 8:00 pm. This will feature three entertainers for an entire evening of family friendly performances.Tickets will be sold to the public, such as family members of students, for $10. All Augustana students are given free admission with presentation of ID. At the door, faculty and staff are allotted four free admissions, including themselves, for their immediate family. Tickets can be ordered in advance or purchased at the door.
The first act, Pyrotechniq, will be about 20 minutes long. This group, formed in 2006, combines dance, costume, and props with fire in an energetic display. The group greatly caters to the venue’s wishes and set up space, and with 60 years of performing experience between the 10 members, the show is sure to be unique.
The second act will last about 45 minutes, and will feature Daniel Martin, and comedian and magician. A performer since he was 12 years old, Daniel has been voted “Entertainer of the Year” and recognized by Campus Activities Magazine. A blend of magic and sarcasm inspired improv, Nick will bring both wonder and comedy to Augustana.
The event will close with comedian and juggler, Nick Pike. Although he’s originally from Great Britain, the juggler of 23 years experience is now based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Nick was originally a contestant on America’s Got Talent, making it into the top 48 acts, and the quarter finals. One of the few holders of a BA honors degree in Contemporary Circus and Theatre, he is now living as a performer around the world, with Augustana as one of the over 150 colleges at which he has performed.
This event will be a great way to end a Saturday night after the football game whether you have family visiting or not. Contact the Special Events Committee through the Student Life Programming Board at [email protected] or 309-794-2695 with any questions.
