The Augustana men’s basketball team defeated the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in a 78-74 victory at home on Saturday to claim the CCIW tournament title.
In previous matches, the Titans and the Vikings split wins, with Illinois Wesleyan beating the Vikings 89-84 at the Carver Center on Jan. 21. The Vikings then beat the Titans at home with a score of 82-56 on Feb. 11.
To secure Saturday’s win, all five Augustana starters scored in double digits. Hunter Hill had the game high with 17 points, with Jawan Straughter and Griffin Pils contributing 15 points each. Rounding out the five, Tayvian Johnson scored 14 points, and Ben Ryan added 11.
The win over Illinois Wesleyan is the Vikings’ fourth championship in a 10-year history for the CCIW tournament. With this win, the Vikings received an automatic bid to NCAA tournament and improved their record to 23-4 this season.
The team will find out their matchup and destination in the NCAA Division III Tournament on March 2.
