The Hunts siblings to perform indie folk

The Hunts, a band of seven brothers and sisters will perform indie folk live on Sept. 20.
The Office of Student Life (OSL) will host a performance by The Hunts at 8 p.m. in Centennial Hall. Admission for faculty, staff and students of Augustana is free.
The Hunts siblings range between the ages of 16 and 24. They say the folk part of their music comes from their instruments, while the indie aspect comes from a twist on the layered harmony they create.
The brothers and sisters have taught themselves how to play each of their instruments, which include mandolin, piano, ukulele, banjo and drums. The siblings also write all of their songs together in, what they call, a very connected process.
“We grew up in Chesapeake, Va., always playing music,” said Jessi Hunt, one of the twin sisters. “We began with violin because my mom was a violin teacher, and we grew up under our dad who loved classic rock. So, we had two worlds of music coming together. We played and learned together and began to write.”
Hunt said she loves when each of her brothers and sisters has the opportunity to create music together.
For the last ten years, the group has traveled the world touring and promoting their music.
“We love playing for colleges; there is something awesome about playing for your peers,” Hunt said. “Most of us are in the college age and we love being able to share the music with our peers, it is so fun and exciting.”
The group said they are excited to be on tour again.
“We finally have something that we have worked so hard on to give our fans, and we cannot wait to share it,” Hunt said.
