Severe temperatures strike midwest

Augustana was closed Monday as the high was 2 degrees and dropped to 8 below zero, according to The Weather Channel. Wind speeds ranged from 28 to 40 mph.
The record low for Jan. 28 in Rock Island was 9 below zero in 1986, just a degree lower than Monday’s low. The Chicagoland area’s low on Monday was 10 below zero and Peoria had a low of 3 below zero.
According to CNN’s meteorologist Brandon Miller, 140 million people in 34 states were under a winter weather warning or advisory Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to remain between 10 and 20 degrees for the weekend with Super Bowl Sunday’s high at 14 degrees.
