Avon Dale launches new EP

On Saturday, October 8th, the band Avon Dale debuts their new EP, Little Ditty, at the Rock Island Brewing Co.

The band Avon Dale formed at the University of Illinois, where Lead singer Conrad Polz met drummer, Alec Heist. Shortly after, the band relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, home of rock n’ roll and blues. Currently, both Alec and Conrad are teachers in the Memphis area, while also being full time band members.

The band is excited about being on the Mississippi river because of the rich history of jazz that the area holds. The river runs all the way from the south and the music travels with it.

“The EP has been a long time coming. We started writing it about a year ago, and it’s a little bit of a conceptual record,”Polz says. “We have 4 main songs on the EP, with little ditties in between them to tie the whole record together.”

According to Heist, the band travels a lot, as they started out in Illinois and now live in Memphis. Although he went to The University of Illinois, Heist grew up in Moline and is excited to start Avon Dale’s tour back home where he spent his childhood.

Heist mentions that “Having a full time job and playing music seriously can be a balancing act, and quite frustrating sometimes.” The band says they’re most excited about going back on tour so they can get back to the musical part of their lives full time.

Polz says, “These songs feel old to us now because we’ve been working on them for so long, but to the rest of the world, they’re brand new. We’re excited to share what we’ve been working on in a live setting with our audiences.”
Avon Dale’s show starts at 9:30 and is free with an Augustana student ID.
