Duncan discusses DIII tourney aspirations

The Observer sat down with senior captain Cori Duncan to discuss the women’s lacrosse team’s goals for the upcoming season.
1. What are some of the acrosse team’s goals and expectations for this season?
“We want to be CCIW champions for the second year in a row and attend the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive year.”
2. As the already favored program to repeat as the women’s lacrosse CCIW champions this season, what kind of feelings result from that?
“Excitement for sure. As a team, we recognize that we have a target on our backs and that every team we play will be out to beat us. This has encouraged us to work even harder and push ourselves as a team.”
3. After losing a number of starting seniors last season, what has the team done to rebuild?
“We did graduate valuable members of our team; however, we have tremendous talent across recruiting classes, which will set us up for success this season.”
4. What will be the team’s biggest obstacle this season and why?
“Our biggest challenge this season is our strength of schedule. We are playing very competitive teams that will challenge us but will set us up to receive a NCAA bid.”
5. As a senior, what has been your most memorable moment on the field?
“One moment I will never forget was the first round of the NCAA tournament freshman year. We were the underdog playing Redlands, who earlier in the season we had lost to by a large margin. We won in the last 10 seconds, and I have never been more proud of my team. That was such a great feeling because no one expected us to win.”
6. If you could switch positions with of your teammates who would it be and why?
“It is hard to pick one specific person, but if I had to change positions I would pick goalie because Jenna, Annalia, and Maddie always have fun together and our assistant coach brings them Dunkin Donuts.”
7. What has Augustana lacrosse taught you within the past four years?
“One thing Augustana lacrosse has taught me is how to be a good teammate and the importance of being supportive and encouraging. I am grateful that I was able to learn this from my amazing teammates, and I cannot wait for this upcoming season!”
